Shoemakersville Borough Council has refused to pay the Hamburg Area Soccer Association an additional $1,000 to help cover the cost of replacing four soccer goals that went missing from borough property.

Garden City’s girls varsity soccer team played a hard fought match against the South Side Cyclones on Tuesday afternoon, October 7th. South Side’s Emma Kriss scored in the 20th minute to give the Cyclones a first half 1-0 lead. GC’s Ashley Pratt was superb in goal making many key saves to keep the game close.

English soccer authorities vetoed Madrid as a venue for a proposed exhibition game against Spain because of the racist abuse the team faced the last time it played in the city. The Spanish federation was fined more than $75,000 when Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Jermain Defoe and Jermaine Jenas were subjected to racial taunts at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in November 2004.
